Digital Vision Network offers the following services to visual journalists and digital filmmakers.

Personal consultations-accomplished via telephone or e-mail for newspapers, magazines, media companies and private individuals. Contact us about your needs and we will help you and your company to get up and running with visual multimedia production as soon as possible. Call or e-mail us about the rates for our special 2 hour telephone New Media consultation. NOTE: to enable the most efficient use of this time please download our pre-consultation form and e-mail it before the meeting date.

In-person consultations-we will travel to your company, listen to what your company’s goals are and design a specific plan tailored to your visual journalism needs.

One to three day training seminars for your company staff. Each organization has their own vision of where it wishes to go with New Media. Our training sessions will be tailored to help your staff achieve the company’s goals.

Platypus Workshop training-contact us for rates on multiple staff members wishing to attend one of our four main annual workshops.

The Platypus Short Courses - In response to demand, our faculty now offers special two-day short courses designed to allow individual newspapers, photo agencies and corporate media operations to get their photographic staffs up to speed on video. In the past year, more and more publications have been tasked to provide video reports for their web sites. As many have learned the hard way, shooting video is different than shooting still photographs. There are new rules that must be learned.

With more than a dozen Platypus Workshops under our belt, which have transformed the skill sets and lives of the photographers that have attended them, we have devised a special curriculum that covers the principles that newspaper staffs need to learn.

The Platypus Short Courses cover the differences between still and video, the rules and routines of video, sequencing, time compression, an overview of Final Cut Pro, compression for the web and how to convert frame grabs into high quality JPEGs that can allow the images to run as a 6 column cut in the newspaper.

THESE ARE NOT HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS.

There is not enough time in two days to go into exercises and edits. For this training, photographers should be sent to one of our regular workshops. However, the training provided in a seminar setting, illustrated with many videos, will familiarize your staffs with the basics.

Phase Two: Video/Multimedia Consultation - After the Platypus Short Course, allow us to further serve your needs by offering specialized consultation on equipment, such as digital video cameras, microphone, tripods, general accessories and non-linear computer-based (Mac or PC) editing systems. Not every organization needs the same type of gear. We will help you to save money by advising only equipment purchases absolutely necessary to accomplish your goals.
